My bitdefender antivirus recognizes keygen programs as a trojan virus are they really virus?

Certain keygen programs distributed from websites have the tendency to install a search engine or a toolbar to the browser or so. Such abilities to change system configuration without the knowledge of the user are usually detected by the antivirus softwares like trojans. I recommend you not to open the keyGen programs. Or you can try running it in secure environments like Linux, generate the key and remove it immediately

It might be false positives. Lots of antivirus recognize keygen signatures as trojan or malmware even though it's totally safe to run.
Real keygens are extremely rare. Most are actually trojan horse viruses. Yes, it probably is a virus, but there is a slight (about 1 in a billion) chance that your anti-virus program is wrong. To be on the safe side, I wouldn't open it. In fact, it would be best to actually buy the program or find a freeware or open-source alternative. Be careful what you download.
Keygen programs are often viruses, and you should be wary of them. They are completely illegal too! Of course, I don't blame you for using them. I myself have used them before. In case you don't know why they're illegal, they are illegal because they allow you to use a program forever, when, in fact, you are supposed to buy them after they're try-out period has expired. So yes, they are often viruses, and after using them, you should tell bitdefender antivirus to destroy them.
Keygens often get flagged it's called a false positive, i would scan with an online scanner if your really that worried.

Today, an unprotected computer isn’t just vulnerable, it’s probably already infected. New viruses, spyware, trojans, worms, and other malware are created every day. New threats are disguised to bypass other security measures, and specifically designed to catch you and your PC off guard. Malwarebytes Coupon
