I recommend you look at this site. This is the results of independent testing of Antivirus programs. The testing service is accurate and the results are taken very seriously by the computer security industry.

Notice the first two programs. The #2 program is free and uses the #1 program. This is why the percentages are the same.

AVG rates much further down the list. This is a good program, but I do not want a program that misses 1 out of every 5 viruses.

Yes BUT, any that's offered for FREE isn't going to be as good as a Paid version...They don't keep their definitions files up to date like paid versions do...
