AVG, they have a free edition and a version that is more geared to businesses for a very nominal fee. That's what I'm using and I've never had a problem yet.

I highly recommend that you download Ad-Aware SE .... Its an excellent program thats free... Run the program every week and it will clean out the junk in your computer well.. I think you can get it at www.downloads.com

For virus detection Avast then Avira. Unlike Avira Avast can monitor P2P networks and instant messaging.

I can't say AVG is bad but it missed in detecting some viruses during tests. If you don't open suspicious packages or visit unprotected websites it should keep you safe.

As for AOL's Active Shield, indeed is an antivirus provided by Kaspersky but it doesn't have all the features! It won't monitor P2P transfers, instant messaging, script blocker and antispyware engine (provided in the new kaspersky 6 engine version).

Avira AntiVir is my choice of the free engines but check it out for yourself at this comparison site.

Avira doesn't scan email which AVG does but I have switched to web mail and can do with out this.

I would recommend Ad-Aware 2007 for your spyware control.

When AVAST found the files, it immediately gave you a screen with the option to DELETE the infected file.

You should have done it then.

If you got confused and closed that screen, then just run the program again, and when the alert goes off

select the option DELETE

...then allow the program to continue the scan.

Yeah you can, but really i think you've wasted your money on getting Norton Antivirus, it DOES NOT stop viruses it's actually one of the lowest anti virus softwares available today.

Try downloading some from UTORRENT/LIMEWIRE/BITLORD etc, ones like ESET smart security etc.
nope nope get rid of norton its crap she needs to download her country software. but do not use norton it does not protect ur hole computer. use avast its free and much better it makes ur computer run faster. and finds all viruses. use that instead of norton.

Should be able to, but just beware of two things, sometime problems do happen, and if she or you ever needed to reinstall the program, and only one of you had the CD, that can cause problems, as you can figure.

Not to mention the fact that Norton can be a big lag, on computer systems. It doesn't happen to everyone but if you notice your computer running a little slow, it is likely do to Norton. I no longer use Norton I've been using AVG for about five months now and found it to work fine, it doesn't lag the computer and my computer is free of infection, I've checked it out on free online scans, just to test it out.

So if your ever looking for a virus protection that you don't have to pay for every year, then I would suggest going with AVG, it's free. And is recommended by computer IT guys.

Use Safe Mode to restore it to a previous time before istalling the Anti-Virus.

To go to safe mode press F8 before your PC boots up.

Then choose Safe mode there.

Try Ctrl+Atl+Delete. Find the antivirus program you installed and end the process. Then try to uninstall it. If this isn't possible open in safe mode and uninstall. Tap F8 during boot and select safe mode from the choices. After you get it out, download and install this program.
