Is AVG antivirus protection good and effective ???

AVG used to be one of the better free AV's , but of late it has fallen behind both Avast and Avira in terms of detection rates.

I personally use Avast and am very happy with it.

Nope. It's not really good. It didnt even detect the virus test by eicar unlike other antivirus. its useless

well avg free is as good as most, better then some. and its easyer to use then any i've tryed. but you'll find the paid versions are always better in the long run. about $20 a year.
it is the number one most popular software at www.download.com,i have been running it for a long time and i like it,it is simple and easy to operate,others may not agree,but i am going by what download.com states and my own use.if you installed it i would also download the 2007 ad-ware,also at download.com,also go to www.free.grisoft.com and get thr free spyware,then get the free zone alarm and set your firewall to max,on same page click on advanced,ckick to 'lock the host file',this is the way i have my 3 systems set up and have not had the first problem in 5 years,but make sure you keep all of your downloads updates every day
