If I download antivirus program do I have to uninstall my existing av first?

First of all, where are you downloading the AV from? You should only download software from trusted sites and in this case, it should most prefferably be from the software companies site, like symantec.com for norton. This is the only way to be sure that you are downloading a fully functional program, as there is no point in uninstalling the one you are currently using only to find out that the one you downloaded doesn't work. If you are certian that the AV you downloaded is fully functional, then you should definatly unistall the one you are currently using, as you should only run one AV on your pc. You can have two, but this causes conflicts and slows down your PC and some AV's do not grant access to files that a second AV is trying to access while scanning, as it picks it up as a threat trying to access your files, and therefore blocks it. So as I said, it just causes conflicts and therefore you should only run one. You therefore need to make sure that it's a better AV you want to install.

Do some research on the net as to the best rated AV's, so that you install a good one. Try Norton or NOD32. Been using Norton for over 3 years and haven't had any major issues on my PC todate, but NOD32 is also very highly recomended. I have tried NOD32, and it is very effective and uses even less ram than norton, but I guess I'm just to used to norton to part way's with it just yet.

Good luck.
